Dr. Bruno deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He served as a Combat Search and Rescue Flight Surgeon, supporting special operations and other high-risk military missions where medical readiness, rapid decision-making, and operational coordination were essential.

Earlier in his military career, Dr. Bruno participated in Search and Rescue medical support associated with NASA’s Space Shuttle Program, contributing to contingency response and mission readiness for human spaceflight operations.
